“You’re moving with your cousin.” Said a voice in the telephone
“B-But..I can’t!” exclaimed another voice “I do not want to!”
A sigh was heard and the first voice continued “You have to. Me and your mother are very busy these days and we can’t stay with you, so you will be living with your cousin. It’s temporary.”
“I don’t want to move…” replyed the other voice in a sad tone
“I know, dear, but moving to Japan means a new begining. You will probably grow to like it and make new friends too. I already bought the airplane ticket.”
“Without telling me?!” shouted the voice loudly, angrily.
“Calm down. It will be alright… Everything is set. You are already enrolled at a school, you have a place to live. You just need to integrate.”
“Integrating is not my thing.”
“Be a bit more sociable. It won’t kill you. The plane leaves tomorrow at 9 a.m., do not be late, and I mean it.”
“I will try…”
“Not try, but do it. Take care, I love you.”
After the last words, the call ended. A girl was looking at her phone screen and frowned. She threw the phone away and sat on the bed, holding her head then covered her face. She sighed and held her hands together. Looking at the ceiling, thoughts ran through her mind. She took a grab of her pillow and stood up suddenly, throwing the pillow at the floor, frowning.
“I love you?” asked her rhetorically “If you loved me, you wouldn’t send me to the other corner of the world!”
She sighed and took a luggage from under the bed, placed it on it and opened it. She walked to the closet and opened it, taking clothes out, folding them and placing them in the luggage. After finally finishing packing, she zipped the luggage and took it off of the bed and put it in the corner of the room, prepared for the morning to come. She sat on a chair and slid with it to the computer desk. She turned it on and connected to the internet, opened the browser and logged in on her blog account. Having no ideas of what to write that day, she decided to wonder around on the internet and read the popular articles.
“Ghost caught on camera.. Will they divorce?.. Woman commits suicide..” she sighed while scrolling the page “Man, this world is going insane.. If no one kills themselves or some star doesn’t cheat or divorce, it’s not interesting…” leting another sigh out, she closed her eyes and, in a spasm, her finger clicked on a random link. She blinked and looked at the new opened web page. The tittle was written in capitals and in an Impact font, “Air Treks”.
“Air Treks..?” she scrolled down and started reading “Through the science of microtechnology, a miniaturized motor, no bigger than a tiny gear, with the power of a four-wheeled vehicle was developed.” She raised an eyebrow and continued reading, holding her chin “It’s become especially popular among extreme sports fans, who use it to modify their rollerblades. These daredevils push themselves to go even faster, to fly even higher. With these high tech devices , they enter a world of their own, racing down the streets, writing their own rules. For Air Trek riders, there are no boundries. The world is their road and the sky is the limit, climbing higher and higher, to the Heavens themselves.”
She looked at the screen and then rubbed her eyes, closing the web page, shutting the computer down.
“This is bullshit. People who do this are crazy.. Why would you risk falling from hundreds of feet high and getting injured, just for a few moments of fun and adrenaline?”
She stood up and fell on the bed with arms spred. She stared at her ceiling sleepy.
“People nowadays are just insane..” she turned around facing the wall and yawned “Isane..” she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
The alarm turned on and she turned it off. She stood up and stretched yawning. After getting prepared, she arrived at the airport and got on the plane that left to Japan. After a long and tiring journey, she finally arrived at the destination, Haneda Airport.
People were rushing, going to or coming from planes, constantly checking the time. Just another busy day on the Haneda Airport.
“What do you mean you lost my bags?!” shouted a voice angrily
“We are sorry, miss.. It’s just a really bad and embarassing mistake, we will try to searc for them and send them to your address as soon as possible.”
She sighed and looked off “Useless sacks of trash..” She backed away from the counter and turned around when heard a whistle and spotted a guy with blue spikey hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a black coat and he was heading to her. She turned to him and rested her back against the counter.
“Hey, cousin.” Greeted him
“Yeah, hey..”
He tilts his head and looked at her from top to bottom. Looking back at her, he smirked.
“They..Lost your bags..”
“For the fifth time!” shouted her frowning “Every time I come here I loose something!”
He closed his eyes and laughed “And I guess they will fix the problem, like they always do..”
She glared at him and crossed her arms. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, pulling his chin on her shoulder.
“Don’t worry.. Let’s just head home, tomorrow it’s your first day of school afterall..”
She glanced at him with the corner of her eye.
“Come again?”
He looked at her and repeated “Tomorrow it’s your first day of school.”
“Dad said nothing about it…”
“Be positive, you might make friends.”
“Stop blabbing with it about making friends!”
He covered her mouth with his hand and took her hand, walking off. After they finally arrived at his home, she followed him to her new room. He walked out and left her alone to explore every inch of it. She took small steps turning her head from side to side. The room was painted in a pale shade of blue, it had an indigo rug with white circles, a king-sized bed made out of black wood in retro style, book shelves were above it and many small framed pictures covered the walls. It had a big wardrobe made out of wood that reached the ceiling. A coffee table was near a corner with two pillows placed near it. Near the bed was a black bedside with a lamp on it and a few CD cases along with the remote. A flat-screen TV covered a part of the wall facing the bed and a big glass door separated the room from the balcony, coverd by blue curtains. She pulled the curtains so it would cover the windows entirely. She changed from her clothes to a long shirt of Nue’s and shorts. She pulled the cover of the bed away and got in, closing her eyes. She turned to the wall and fell asleep.
The following morning, Nue got in her room and shook her shoulder. She opened her eyes and looked back at him, sleepy. He backed away and walked out. She rubbed her eyes and stood up. She went to the bathroom and started getting ready. Luckily, after she lost her bags a few times when coming to visit Nue, she left there a few clothes she bought before leaving. She walked downstairs and took an over-the-shoulder bag. Nue passed her a sandwich and a bottle of water. She put them in the bag and rushed out. While walking, a few riders went by her fastly. She blinked and looked at their backs as they started fading away through the crowd. She sighed and finally arrived at the school. She stopped by a door and simply couldn’t manage to not notice the loud voices coming from inside the room. She pulled the handle and walked in. The class suddenly went silent and stared at her awkwardly. She looked at them in confusion. A woman walked to her slowly and finally managed to speak.
“A-are you the new student?”
“Yes.”
The woman nodded “My name is Mari Tomita..” she turned to the class and kept the low-toned voice “C-class..P-please welcome our new classmate. Tell t-them something about you.”
She sighed and pulled one of her side bangs behind her ear and looked at the people in the class.
“Well, my name is Yuki Ookami. I am Japanese by origin but my parents moved to Brazil shortly after I was born, but now I came back.”
The teacher pointed at a seat and she went to it. She sat down and stared at the ceiling while the class started to talk again. She felt a pat on her shoulder and she turned on the right to face a guy. He had short blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes. Besides his school uniform, he wore fingerless gloves and a white cap. He put his cheek on his hand and smiled.
“Yo”
She stared at him for a few seconds and then replied
“Hey”
“So, you moved from Brazil?” asked him and she nodded “Which town exactly?”
She shifted her eyes away and answered “Rio de Janeiro”
He blinked and let out a long whistle “Nice.. Are you rich by any chance?”
“Yes, why do you ask?” blinked her in confusion.
“Well..” started him “Rio de Janeiro.. It’s not a cheap town.”
She nodded again and looked off then laid her back against the chair. “I don’t really care.” She looked at him “Does this class even study? They are pretty loud.”
He smiled casually “Nope.”
She looked at him ironically and then smiled too, somehow stupidly right before the bell rang.
